The Beefmaster Group Data Privacy Statement

Protecting your privacy is as important to us as it is to you. For us, it’s more than just making sure we comply with the relevant legislation; you trust us with your personal information and we respect that trust. This Privacy Statement explains why and how we collect, use and store your personal information. The processing of personal data must be transparent and secure, in conformity with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI). This Privacy Statement contains the information required by POPI and other relevant privacy legislation. 

  1. What Is This Notice About?

We want you to understand who you are sharing your information with, what kind of information we collect and how we use the information.

In your day-to-day dealings with the Beefmaster Group of Companies we obtain information about you. We want you to know exactly what that information is and what we do with it. This Privacy Statement describes how we collect, use, process, and disclose your personal information, in conjunction with your access to and use of Beefmaster Group’s web platforms.

The Protection of Personal Information Act protects you.

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) is aimed at protecting your personal information and prescribes what we must and must not do with it. POPI created an Information Regulator who checks that companies like Beefmaster manage personal information in a responsible manner that respects your privacy.

This privacy notice is part of our agreement with you.

This Privacy Statement forms part of our agreement with you. You should read it along with the terms and conditions that apply. These terms and conditions can be accessed on the specific Beefmaster Group websites at www.beefmaster.co.za and www.ibeef.co.za.

This notice may change from time to time.

From time to time we may have to amend this notice to accommodate changes in our business or services or if legal requirements change. It is your responsibility to check that you have read the latest version. This privacy statement was last updated in July 2021.

  1. Who You Are Sharing Your Information With

Beefmaster is a group of companies. The following companies are part of the Beefmaster Group:

For this document we will refer to the Beefmaster Group. Our principal place of business is at  2 -6 Carlstein Street, Kimdustria, Kimberley but we recommend you contact our Information Officer at informationofficer@beefmaster.co.za.

  1. When This Privacy Statement Applies

This Privacy Statement applies:

  • when you use any of our products or services;
  • when you apply to us for a job or work placement;
  • when you supply services to us where this involves any personal information;
  • as a result of your relationship with our clients; and/or
  • to any information collected from or shared with third parties.

This Privacy Statement also applies to our websites and online services as well as any publications or newsletters that you request.

  1. What Information We Collect

‘Personal information’ is any information that can be used to identify you or that we can link to you. Where you use our services, we will collect personal information directly from you.

We may also collect personal information from third parties such as your employing organisation, regulatory authorities, recruitment agencies, credit reporting agencies, information or service providers, publicly available records, and the third parties described in this Privacy Statement.

Information that you voluntarily provide to us.

We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us including when you communicate with us via forms, email or other channels; when you sign up for newsletters, alerts, or other materials; and when you respond to our communications or requests for information.

The information you provide may include current and historical personal information including your name, contact details, title, identification, employment, positions held and enquiry/complaint details and information about the organisation with which you are affiliated. We may also collect personal information about your other dealings with us and our clients, including any contact we have with you in person, by telephone, email or online.

Information from other sources.

We may collect information from other sources, such as social media platforms that share information about how you interact with our social media content, and any information gathered through these channels will be governed by the privacy settings, policies, and/or procedures of the applicable social media platform, which we strongly encourage you to review. We will handle any unsolicited information in accordance with law, including destroying or de-identifying such information where we are required to do so.

When you use our online services, we may collect the following:

Information you provide by completing forms (this includes information you give us, submitting material, entering competitions, registering for any of our online offerings or subscribing to our newsletters or other services).

  • Your name and address;
  • Your delivery address (if different to above);
  • Your contact telephone number in case we need to call you;
  • Your credit or debit card number, expiry date and security code; where relevant;
  • Information you provide by your participation in competitions;
  • Information you provide to us if you contact us, for example to report a problem with our services or online services raise a query or comment; and
  • Where our online services require that you enter a password or other information in order to access certain features, we will collect such credentials when you enter them.

If you apply for a job with us.

We may request personal information about your education, employment, racial background and state of health. As part of your application you will be asked to provide your express consent to our use of this information to assess your application and to allow us to carry out both recruitment analytics and any monitoring activities which may be required of us under applicable law as an employer.

We may also carry out screening checks (including reference, background, directorship, financial, identity, eligibility to work, vocational suitability and criminal record checks) and consider you for other positions. We may exchange your personal information with academic institutions, recruiters, screening check providers, health service providers, professional and trade associations, law enforcement agencies, recruitment analytics providers, referees and your current and previous employers.

We may also gather additional information about you from publicly available resources such as LinkedIn or other social or professional media platforms and collate this with the information that you provide to us. Without your personal information, we may not be able to progress considering you for positions with us.

In some instances, personal information must be provided to us in order for us to legally or contractually perform services to you, for example where we are required by law to gather personal information for anti-money laundering identification purposes. Where relevant we will highlight to you those details that we are required to collect.

We collect information while you use our websites.

Every time you connect to our websites we store web server logs which show your IP address (the unique number which your machine uses when it is connected to the Internet), what you looked at, whether the page request was successful or not, and which browser you used to view the pages. The use of this data is strictly for statistical and personalisation purposes only. This helps us understand which areas of the site are of particular interest and also which pages are not being requested. It also tells us how many hits and page requests we get.

We use cookies to optimise your website experience, but you can opt out.

A cookie is a small piece of information stored by your browser on your device. It may contain some personal details in an encrypted format, which can be recalled when you return to the website. This speeds up our identification, ordering and delivery processes.

We use cookies to identify the device you use to connect to our website. We use anonymous cookies to collect data about how you use our website, so that we can improve and optimise your website experience. You can opt out of cookies by activating the setting on your web browser which allows your web browser to refuse cookies. However, if you select this setting you may be unable to access certain parts of our website and this may have a detrimental effect on your experience and the web-based services that we can offer you. You may delete the cookies stored on your computer at any time.

Other tracking pixels may also be collected as required.

Our stores and facilities may be monitored by CCTV cameras.

Our facilities may be monitored by CCTV cameras for public safety and crime prevention.  The footage is stored in a secure location and every precaution is taken to keep it secure.

We don’t collect the information of persons under 18.

We do not collect the information of persons under 18 without the consent of their parents or guardians unless otherwise stated in our Terms and Conditions. If you are under the age of 18 you must not provide personal information to us without the consent of your parent or guardian and we reserve the right to ask for proof of guardian or parent’s consent.

  1. Why We Need Your Personal Information

We use your personal information to provide our products and services to you.

We use your personal information to provide our products and services to you. This includes:

  • processing your payment card details in order to complete any purchase;
  • processing your orders and transactions for goods and services;
  • delivering products that you order online;
  • processing your basket details to create a profile to give you personalised offers;
  • responding to your queries and comments; and
  • when we have a legal duty to use or disclose your information.

Our primary goal for collecting information about you is to improve our products and services to you. This includes processing payment information, orders, deliveries, or whenever we are obliged to do so under law.

We need your personal information if you apply for credit.

We use your personal information to process your application for credit, this includes checking your identity, credit status, contact details and financial track record.  We also need personal information to send statements and other legal documents, and collect payments you owe us.

Your personal information also helps us to accurately assess your suitability for credit. This typically involves identity checks, contact details verification and assessment of financial records.

We use your personal information to learn more about the products and services that interest you.

  • To conduct market research to understand your preferences, learn more about the products and services that you are interested in and improve the products and services we offer to you.
  • To inform and provide you with the opportunity to make use of products and services that we offer and that we believe may be of interest to you.

Please note that we will not contact you telephonically for unsolicited marketing purposes or send unsolicited marketing communications to you by mail, SMS or email if you have not opted in to receive them.

  1. Sharing Your Information

Your privacy is important to us, and we undertake to not use or share your personal information unless for business purposes. We will not provide any of your information to entities outside our group so as to permit them to market their goods or services to you.

You agree that we may make your information available to the following people and organisations in order to process your data as set out in this Privacy Statement:

  • Your data may be used by other entities in the Beefmaster Group.
  • We only share your personal information with companies that help us to provide our services to you and who have agreed to keep your information secure and to only use it for authorised purposes.
  • We use suppliers or service providers who we trust to provide services to us and sometimes that involves sharing your information with them. They operate under strict requirements aimed at keeping your personal information secure and confidential and they will only use it for the purpose for which we have sent it to them. We will engage external service providers with appropriate Non Disclaimer and/or Data Sharing Agreements to protect your data.
  • To governmental, judicial, regulatory and law enforcement bodies and agencies, including any credit regulator.

We will never use your personal information for other reasons than providing services to you. We will also never provide your information to entities outside our group for marketing purposes. However, you agree that we may share your information with divisions within our group or companies that help us deliver our products and services to you and we will engage them with non-disclaimer agreements to protect your data. We also share your information with relevant financial institutions and regulatory entities on a per need basis.

Sometimes we have to send your personal information to other countries.

Some of these service providers may be located in other countries that may not have the same levels of protection of personal information as South Africa. If this is the case, we require that they undertake to protect the personal information of our customers to the same level that we do.

  1. Your Rights and Preferences

You have the right to know what personal information we have about you, to correct it and to opt out of any marketing.

You have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • ask what information was sent to our suppliers, service providers or any other third party;
  • ask us to update, correct or delete any out-of-date or incorrect personal information we hold about you;
  • unsubscribe from any direct marketing communications we may send you; and
  • object to the processing of your personal information.

It can take us up to 21 days to respond to your request and we may charge a small fee. If you want us to delete all personal information we have about you, you will probably have to terminate all agreements you have with us. We cannot maintain our relationship with you without having some of your personal information. We can refuse to delete your information if we are required by law to keep it or if we need it to protect our rights.

Please contact our Information Officer if you want to submit any request to us. Information can be corrected on request via our procedures set out in our PAIA manual below.

  1. Security

We take your privacy and the security of your personal information seriously.

We have implemented reasonable security safeguards to protect the personal information that you give us. For example sensitive data (such as your credit card information) is protected by SSL encryption when it is exchanged between your web browser and our website.

You can play a role in protecting your information by never sharing your username, PIN or password with anyone or submitting it to a website you don’t recognise. Always log off after a web session and change your password regularly.

We regularly monitor our systems for possible vulnerabilities and attacks. No system is perfect so we cannot guarantee that information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical or managerial safeguards.

Please note that any email you send to us is not encrypted and may be monitored by us. Please do not send us sensitive or confidential personal information by email.

We will inform you if your privacy is ever compromised.

Although we cannot prevent all security threats, we have measures in place to minimise the threat to your privacy. Should there be a data breach where your personal information is directly affected, we will follow the guidelines provided by data privacy legislation in order to inform you.

iBeef Competition, powered Beefmaster Group, In association with Toks en Tjops and kykNET

December 2022, Terms and Conditions

1.  By entering the iBeef competition, powered by Beefmaster Group, all participants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

2.  While this competition is endorsed by Toks en Tjops, it is in no way sponsored or administered by Toks en Tjops or kykNET. It is also not associated with Facebook or Twitter (TW). Any correspondence regarding this competition must be directed to Beefmaster Group.

3.  All information collected pursuant to the competition is collected by Beefmaster Group and not by KykNET or Toks en Tjops. By submitting your information to Beefmaster Group, you consent to Beefmaster Group using your information in connection with the competition.

4.  In order to be eligible to enter the competition, a participant:

4.1  must be at least 18 years old and reside in the Republic of South Africa;

5.  To enter: Participants need to visit the iBEEF website at www.ibeef.co.za and search for the Beefmaster “Fees Bees”. When the image is found, you need to click on it to be directed to the entry form. Here the following needs to be completed: Participant’s name, surname, email address, cellphone number, delivery address and the two questions, “Who buys your meat?” and “Is there a difference between Beefmaster Group and Beefmaster Breeders Society of South Africa” before midnight on Thursdays in order to qualify for possible selection. All of the entries will be placed into a lucky draw and the first entry drawn at random will be selected as the winner. Entries without completed details will not be eligible to enter the competition and immediately disqualified.

6.  The following persons and entities are not eligible to participate in the competition:

6.1  directors, members, partners, employees, agents of or consultants to Beefmaster Group, its subsidiaries, divisions and/or associated companies (“Beefmaster Group”) or any other person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by Beefmaster Group and their spouses, life partners, immediate family members and business partners;
6.2  directors, members, partners, employees, agents of or consultants to the advertising and promotion agencies of Beefmaster Group and their spouses, life partners, immediate family members and business partners

7. The competition will run from 30 November 2022 to 16 December 2022.

8.  Each week’s entries need to be submitted on Thursdays before midnight. Entries received after closing each week will not be considered. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason, whether not delivered, received, delayed or damaged due to technical reasons, including telecommunication failure on the part of the participant’s service provider, or otherwise.

9.  One winner will be selected weekly and will be announced at the following live broadcast of Toks en Tjops on Kyknet, DStV Channel 144, or on the Social media pages of Toks en Tjops and Beefmaster Group.

10. Each prize per week is valued at approximately R4000. Each prize will consist of a combination of (but not limited to):
– The Great Braai Box (Meat box)
– Beefmaster Leather & Canvas Apron, and/or Beefmaster Shopper Bag, and/or Beefmaster Butcherblock and/or Spices, and/or Beefmaster Cap, and/or Braai tong.

10.1  Notification and delivery of prizes:

10.1.1  The winner’s contact details will be obtained from the entries received. The winner will be informed after his/her name has been selected, that he/she has won the prize.
10.1.2 In addition, weekly winners will be announced on air on Toks en Tjops on 2 December 2022 & 9 December 2022, and the winner of 16 December 2022 will be announced on the Social Media Pages of Toks en Tjops and Beefmaster Group.
10.1.3  Beefmaster Group reserves the right to disqualify a winner if he/she does not respond after being contacted indicating that he/she accepts the prize. In such event, Beefmaster Group will be entitled to select another winner immediately thereafter.
10.1.4  If the winner cannot accept a prize for any reason, that winner will forfeit his/her prize and another winner will be selected. In order to claim his/her prize, a winner may contact Beefmaster Group on 053 441 9100.
10.1.5  The winners’ name may be published on Beefmaster Group’s social media pages (Facebook and/or Instagram).
10.1.6  Unless the winner specifically states otherwise, each winner agrees to participate in all promotional activity and hereby consents to Beefmaster Group using his/her name, images and/or voice in any promotional material for the purpose of promoting the competition. No compensation will be payable for such use. The winner will have the right to withdraw his/her consent for the use of his/her name, images and/or voice prior to the use thereof by Beefmaster Group in any promotional activity.
10.1.7  Deliveries must take place during office hours to a physical address.
10.1.8  Beefmaster Group’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

11.  The prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or for any other item. If, for any reason, Beefmaster Group cannot provide the prize, the company will award an alternative prize of a similar value.

12.  A copy of these terms and conditions will be available on the Beefmaster Group and iBeef website.

13.  By participating in the Competition, YOU agree, SUBJECT TO APPLICABLE LAW, THAT NEITHER Beefmaster Group, kykNET, Toks en TJOPS, FB, TWITTER, the SUPPLIER/Sponsor NOR any OF THEIR RESPECTIVE advertising agencies WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY losses, damages, COSTS OR claims in connection with the Competition or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize.

14.  BEEFMASTER GROUP RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TERMINATE, SUSPEND OR AMEND THE COMPETITION FOR REASONS BEYOND ITS CONTROL. BEEFMASTER GROUP AND ITS SERVICES PROVIDERS, INCLUDING ANY TELEPHONE NETWORK PROVIDERS, ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INCORRECT OR INACCURATE TRANSCRITION OF ENTRY INFORMATION, TECHNICAL MALFUNCTION, LOST OR DELAYED DATA TRANSMISSION, OMISSION, INTERRUPTION, DELETION, LINE FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION OF ANY TELEPHONE NETWORK, COMPUTER EQUIPMENT OR SOFTWARE, THE INABILITY TO ACCESS ANY WEBSITE OR ONLINE SERVICES OR FOR ANY OTHER ERROR.

Competition Social Media Terms and Conditions for Beefmaster Group

  1. Beefmaster Group competitions are open to residents of South Africa aged 18 years or over except employees of Beefmaster Group and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging of the competition.
  2. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter competitions.
  3. By entering our competitions, entrants indicate their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  4. Route to entry for competitions and details of how to enter are via https://www.facebook.com/BeefmasterSA (Beefmaster South Africa – Facebook) or https://www.instagram.com/ (Beefmaster SA – Instagram).
  5. Only one entry will be accepted per person per competition. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified, unless otherwise stated.
  6. Closing date for entries will be as mentioned on the social media competition posts. After this date, no further entries to the competitions will be permitted.
  7. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
  8. The competition rules and how to enter are to be specified on the social media competition posts.
  9. Beefmaster Group reserves the right to cancel or amend competitions and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to competitions will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the promoter.
  10. Beefmaster Group is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with competitions.
  11. The prize(s) is/are as follows: The prize is as stated in the social media posts and no cash or other alternatives will be offered (unless stipulated otherwise) or to be given awarded subject to the company. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability, and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
  1. Winners will be chosen:
  • At random by Beefmaster Group
  • As a result of a popular vote conducted via social media sites and/or
  • Based on the best comment (approved by Beefmaster Group)
  1. Competition winners will be notified by Facebook or Instagram DM and/or via email within 28 days of the closing date. Winners will only ever be contacted by Beefmaster Group. If the winners cannot be contacted or do not claim their prize(s) within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw their prize(s) from the winners and pick a replacement winner.
  2. Beefmaster Group will notify the winners when and where their prize(s) can be collected / will be delivered.
  3. Beefmaster Group’s decision in respect of all matters to do with competitions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  4. By entering competitions, entrants indicate their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  5. The competitions and these terms and conditions will be governed by [English] law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [South Africa].
  6. Winners agree to the use of their name and/or image(s) in any publicity material, as well as their entry (if required). Any personal data relating to the winners, or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current [SA] data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent.
  7. Entry into Beefmaster Group competitions will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  8. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Twitter, or any other Social Network. You are providing your information to Beefmaster Group and not to any other party. The information provided will be used in conjunction with the applicable privacy policies and regulations.

Additional Terms and Conditions:

  • Beefmaster Group’s decision as to those able to take part and selection of winners is final. No correspondence relating to competitions will be entered into.
  • The entrants must be following Beefmaster Group on Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn/Twitter on Twitter in order to enter.

Beefmaster Group also reserves the right to cancel competitions if circumstances arise outside of its control.
