JOB PURPOSE:

A leading South African producer and exporter of beef products is looking to recruit a suitable cost accountant at its large production facility based in Kimberley on a permanent basis. Experience in production, logistics, inventory management, cost accounting and cost/data analysis is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate must meet the following:

QUALIFICATION AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • B. Com Degree in Accounting/Finance or relevant financial degree appropriate for cost accounting plus articles.
    Further qualification as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) OR Certified Cost Accountant (CCA) will be advantageous.
  • At least 5 years relevant experience as a cost accountant / management accountant
  • Strong background and understanding in cost accounting and data analysis with previous exposure to factory or plant operations essential.
  • Ability to compile, analyse data, identify trends and draw conclusions with practical and workable recommendations.
  • Ability to clearly communicate findings and recommendations to management at various levels within the business.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and resource management.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate data analysis and reporting.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and other data analytic tools is a must.
  • Knowledge of Sage accounting and Meat Matrix will be advantageous.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform full cost accounting and reporting function – onsite.
  • Responsible for valuation and costing of monthly inventory and trading accounts, where applicable.
  • Engage with suppliers to obtain most efficient terms and pricing.
  • Operational and other cost variance analysis, forecasts, budgets and estimates of business activity costs across various departments, including capital expenditure.
  • Manage and oversee reduction and/or elimination of obsolete/redundant inventory and consumable items.
  • Closely involved and often lead operational teams on initiatives to identify and analyse cost efficiencies and profit improvement across all divisions.
  • Continuously lead and be involved in all initiatives for process improvements and cost reduction.
  • Determine variances in stock levels and create awareness across various departments.
  • Assist operational and production teams with budgeting, forecasting and inventory management.
  • Monitor and track various cost measures continuously from both internal and external suppliers and relevant performance.
  • Compile and draw up statistical data and identify drawbacks for planning purposes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to clarify and understand business processes, identify key cost drivers and implement cost-saving initiatives and measures for efficiency.
  • Any other duties that may be delegated by line management with the purpose of meeting.
