Job Purpose: 

We’re looking for a Diesel Mechanic to join the Maintenance team at the Beefmaster Abattoir in Kimberley. The main purpose of this position is to take responsibility for the repair and maintenance of all Light Delivery, Service vehicles and Plant machines, i.e. Front-end loaders, Forklifts, Service trucks, Generators, etc. and related equipment according to sound practice and equipment specifications. Take ownership of the machines or vehicles to be maintained by them, advising the foreman on the current condition of vehicles and advising on best solutions for maintenance.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualification.
  • A recognized Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate.
  • Compliance with the company’s value system and code of ethics.
  • Ability to handle conflict and good interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently, but also in a team.
  • Candidate must have good communication and leadership skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities: 

  • Adhering to all health and safety practices requirements and promote good housekeeping to ensure
    compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled
    risk environment
  • Ensuring all equipment is serviced and maintained as required using the appropriate as per job, in
    order to achieve optimal functionality within the section and maintain cost effectiveness
  • Ensuring own ability to read equipment drawings enabling their proper servicing and functioning,
    mark all pieces and equipment when working and when completed
  • Ensuring work is executed as per standards & procedures
  • Ensuring job cards are completed and timeously
  • Ensuring all toolboxes and tools are kept in good condition
  • Ensuring installations, commissioning of infrastructure and post-installation work testing for
    functionality is executed in accordance with specifications to meet deadlines and budget
    requirements.
  • Ensuring area is cleaned using the appropriate method prior to brazing and / or soldering and
    consider effects of temperature and time on quality of the product; always comply with all
    procedures to ensure safety and optimal results
  • Conducting gouging according to correct procedures and based on the necessary precautions to
    ensure that the process is conducted safety and efficiently
  • Providing assistance to supervisor and co-workers when required within company policies,
    procedures and guidelines to enhance teamwork objectives
  • Providing advice in all maintenance related matters and tactics to all concerned parties in a pro-active
    manner aligned with best practices and within agreed upon timeframes to avoid possible problems
    and uplift competence base.
